Review: LEGO Ninjago #70500 Kai’s Fire Mech
Review: LEGO Ninjago #70500 Kai’s Fire Mech
Written by, Geneva – gid617
January 2013 saw six new Ninjago sets featuring a new type of Ninja suit and the stone army! Today I’ll review the smallest set of the line: Kai’s Fire Mech, a small Mech that was built for him by Nya, with a fire gun on one hand and grabbing clips on the other! For a set that costs $9.99, 102 pieces is a fairly good amount, especially since some of them are the larger sized robot pieces, often used in Hero Factory, for example. The set includes both Kai in his new Kimono suit and a short stone warrior with a crossbow, plus an awesome new fire blade for Kai!
The Mech is fun to build and has some nice SNOT (studs-not-on-top) work for some of the detailing. But the best part is posing it afterwards! With the flexible hand and the rotating blaster, he can even stand on one hand!
If you recall, Nya was the one that built the Mech, so it’s not surprising that it shares many similarities with its “big sister”! You can check it out with a slightly modified version of the Samurai Mech below!
As a bonus, with some clever posing the Mech can be stuck on the back of Cole’s Earth Driller, allowing Cole to carry it around!
But the best part of any LEGO set, for me, is changing it! I did make some changes to the body, but most of what I did was with the hands – I changed the blaster for another hand and added a small harpoon to the other hand! You can see how it turned out below!
So how do you like Kai’s Fire Mech? Do you plan on getting it or do you have it already? Did you get any inspiration from this review? Feel free to share your comments and questions below!
What’s with Ninjago and four?
Have you ever noticed that the producers of Ninjago must love the number 4? I have! Over the couple of years that Ninjago existed, I’ve noticed many things in Ninjago that have to do with the number four. For example, there are four main ninjas, four weapons, and four elements (we won’t get into all that just yet). But why is four the main number in Ninjago? Maybe because LEGO just picked a random number or maybe they picked the ninjas and noticed that there are four, or maybe it was accidental. Who can tell? I can! I contacted LEGO several days ago to ask that question and here is the response: “So the reason that ther’e so much focus on the number 4 is because there is 4 different elemets in the land of NINJAGO to control.” (this is a copied quote so please don’t blame us for the mistakes!
)
If you don’t know what I mean by four, here’s a list of what I noticed has four in Ninjago: Four ninjas, four generals in the skeleton army, four main snake tribes, four elements, four kinds of each snake in each of the four snake tribes, four action cards in each spinner, four different kinds of stone army men, four weapons of Spinjitzu, four Fang Blades, four Golden Snake Staffs, four Lloyds in different suits, four skeleton army men (not generals), three four armed figures, four dragons and four sets with four figures in them 2011-2012. I may have missed several so if I didn’t list them please just say so in the comment section below! Hope you enjoyed my article and look out for more articles about the upcoming season of Ninjago!

LEGO The Lone Ranger in 2013
LEGO The Lone Ranger in 2013
Written by, Geneva – gid617
In April 2013, LEGO will release an entirely new theme, based on the new Disney Lone Ranger movie, called Lone Ranger (naturally!). Like many themes, Lone Ranger will start off with six sets varying from $13 to $100, though who knows if there will be more further down the road? Below is a brief break down of the sets!
#79106 Cavalry Builder Set – Includes four minifigures, three blue-coated soldiers and the Lone Ranger on a new style white horse! There’s also a cannon and a palisade which seems to fold in the middle! $12.99
#79107 Comanche Camp – The Lone Ranger and Tonto have met up with another Indian it seems, and in this three minifigure set they are being attacked by scorpions! It also includes a teepee, weapon rack, canoe, and a small hole-in-a-rock structure, though I’m not sure what it’s for… $19.99
#79108 Stagecoach Escape – This set includes three of the new style horses, two in black and one in brown, plus five minifigures – two bad cowboys, the Lone Ranger, his sidekick Tonto, and a lady. And that stagecoach is pretty neat too! $29.99
#79109 Colby City Showdown – Don’t let the bandits get away with robbing the bank! Includes five minifigures – two are apparently bad, one who looks like he could be a sheriff or some sort of officer, the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Unfortunately there aren’t any horses, but all that treasure is great and the buildings look awesome, and the exploding cell door and bank wall are nice features! $49.99
#79110 Silver Mine Shootout – Another five minifigure set, the Silver Mine features a crane, exploding rock, a nice wooden structure off to the left, and a lot of nice sand and rock! Includes, Lone Ranger, Tonto, another Indian, and two cowboys. $69.99
#79111 Constitution Train Chase – The flagship – or perhaps I should say, flagtrain – of the line, the Constitution Train Chase includes enough track to make a nice set up, a fantastic looking locomotive, a water tower, and a few rock and bush outcroppings. It comes with seven minifigures plus the Lone Ranger’s white horse! $99.99
So what do you think about the Lone Ranger line? The Colby City Shootout is probably my favorite, but some of the others are pretty nice too! Which one is your favorite? Feel free to share your comments below!
